Presented here, in short form, is a review of the historical highlights of Christianity that follows the development of Christian churches over the past two thousand years. From the Pentecost event when there were only a few followers spreading the faith to the present day organized religion that claims to have two billion members, there are milestones which mark key events that caused the proliferation of so many different churches. So many churches exist today because of complex combinations of theological, political, and social factors. The hope is that this review will provide an introduction to the origins and evolutionary changes of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches that may stimulate further study.
